Hello.
My name is Catfish. Thank you for visiting my page about
Fender American Stratocaster guitars and Fender Mexican
Standard Stratocasters. During my 7 years of selling guitars
I was constantly asked the difference between the Mexican
Standard Stratocaster, the Fender Amercian Standard Stratocaster,
the Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster and some of the
other American Stratocaster models. So I thought I would
put this page together to educate everyone as to what the
differences are, which one is probably best for you, and
where you can buy Stratocasters at the best possible price
online.
The first thing we will cover is the difference between
the American Standard Stratocaster and the Mexican Standard
Strat. This by far is the most common question because of
the price difference and the fact that many people have
grown up wanting a Fender American Stratocaster but are
not prepared to make a financial committment of that sort
to acquire one. So the next viable alternative that fits
into many more people's budget, is the Mexcian Standard
Strat. Other than the obvious difference of where these
two instruments are made and produced, there are a few more
characteristics that seperate the two instruments in terms
of quality.

The major difference between the Mexican Standard Stratocaster
and the American Standard Stratocaster is the type and quality
of wood used to make the guitar. The American version offers
a choice of ash or alder. Ash is a little lighter but lacks
some of the sustain that alder has in my opinion (but of
coarse your free to disagree..lol). But as with anything,
you get what you pay for. The quality and tone of the wood
is superior to that of the Mexican stratocaster (if it wasn't
they wouldn't sell any Americans). I think you find greater
consistentcy in quality and overall workmanship as well
with regard to the cosmetic details, fret wire, and playability
of the neck. The Mexican strat has 21 frets to the American's
22 thereby giving the American Standard Stratocaster more
tonal range as an instrument. The Mexican guitar has a vintage
style Synchronized Tremolo where as the American has the
more modern 2-point synchronized tremolo with stainless
steel saddles allowing the instrument to stay in tune more
consistently, especially for those players that use the
tremolo aggressively. There are some other differences also
that you can check out by comparing the specs from Fender.com:

All in all you will find that the American Standard Stratocaster
is a much better instrument than the Mexican Strandard Stratocaster
which is why one costs more than the other. However, the
Mexican Stratocaster is a fine guitar and plays almost the
same as its American brother. If you want the look, feel
and similar sound of the American stratocaster without going
over your budget, I recommend getting a Mexican Stratocaster
and putting in some new pickups. The results can be pretty
amazing and you save about 3 to 4 hundred dollars after
its all said and done. But if you really want the sound
that launched rock n roll and you want to play the real
deal, get yourself an Amercian Standard Stratocaster like
I have and you won't be sorry. Especially when your trying
to play your favorite Hendrix song!
Now if you have already decided that you want to buy an
American Standard Stratocaster, but your not sure what the
American Deluxe Stratocaster guitar is, here is the low
down. It's everything that the American is but it features
three NEW Samarium Cobalt Noiseless™ Strat pickups
and an S-1™ switching system that allows you to get
10 different pickup configuartions rather then the traditional
five of most stratocasters. Did I mention the NOISELESS
pickups?? LOL. Enhanced cosmetics including better overall
workmanship in most cases that I have observed, real abalone
dot position inlays as well as Fender/Schaller deluxe staggered
cast/sealed locking tuning machines to further improve the
accuracy of tuning of the guitar. In a nutshell, it's the
Ferrari of Stratocasters. If your a serious professional
you should really check out this guitar as it exceeds most
expectations.
Of coarse the new kid on the block with regard to Stratocasters
is the 50th Anniversry American Stratocaster guitar. Celebrating
50 years of creating rock n roll history, Fender has created
a Stratocaster for the ages (hows that for a amateur Guitar
Center like commerical? LOL). But seriously, this is another
anniversery strat from Fender that really has a lot of cool
other than just the 50th anniversery commemerative neck
plate. This strat features an Ash body for those who prefer
a lighter, more comfortable guitar. It has three Custom
Shop 1954 single coil pickups which give it the vintage
sound that Fender is trying to recreate with the instrument.
Thus you get a vintage type sound with the advantages of
a modern bridge / tremolo system not found most other strats.
The 50th Anniversery Stratocaster has the classic sound,
look and feel with all the best modern technology to keep
it in tune. It's a throwback that is sure to please traditional
strat lovers.
I
hope this page helps clear up some of the mystery surrounding
the differences between the Mexican Standard stratocaster,
the American Standard Stratocaster, the American Deluxe
Stratocaster and the 50th Anniversery Strat. f you want
to buy a stratocaster online, my
first recommendation would either be Musiciansfriend.com
or Guitar Trader. They both offer a 45 Day Satisfaction
Guarantee and 45 Day Lowest Price Guarantee. And when you
purchase a Fender American Stratocaster, Fender American
Deluxe Stratocaster or a Mexican Stratocaster from any of
the links on this page, you support Dive Bomber and our upcoming
CD release. Thanks for visiting and good luck buying your
next Fender guitar.
