Back in the day when I worked at Guitar Center and Guitar Trader, the Gibson Custom was part of the regular Gibson USA line and was the top of the line Les Paul. Recently, ownership of the custom brand changed from Gibson USA to the Gibson Custom Shop in order to more reflect the instruments namesake. And so did the best Les Paul Custom, my favorite the Black Beauty.

The thing I like most about my Les Paul Custom is the overall tone of the instrument. Granted I have changed my pickups from stock pickups to Seymour Duncan but I have had the opportunity to play at least 100 Les Paul Customs in 7 years of working at music stores (I usually played everyone that came in..lol) and I think regardless of the pickups you put in them (although it obviously will have a dramatic effect on the tone) they always sound incredible. The combination of the dark sounding mahogany body with just enough maple top to bring out the highs gives it the incredible sustain that the guitar is famous for as well as the thick low end that only a Les Paul gives you. and the I love playing on an ebony neck. It feels faster for some reason to me. Of coarse, having a Black Beauty I also enjoy the luxury of three humbuckers to get a huge selection of tones. The icing on the cake for me is just the general asthetic of the instrument. It just plain looks cool. Especially mine..lol.

Be advised that the only thing you might not like about the Les Paul Custom guitar is how much it weighs. After 90 minutes of playing you and your back will want a break from this monster but that's the price you pay for tone. This aint no balsa wood axe that's made in China. This is the real deal made in the USA bad boy Les Paul. It is not for the weak. LOL.
