Hello. My name is Catfish. Welcome to my page about Gibson Les Paul Studio electric guitars. I bought my first Les Paul Studio in 1992. It was wine red with chrome hardware. I had always wanted a Les Paul but at the time I was working at Guitar Center which probably paid somewhere in the range of $5 an hour at that time...lol. But I was able to save the $700 dollars it cost me to buy one back then and I was stoked!
I was completely in love with the tone of the guitar from the day I pluged it in. The mahogany body had a deep, thick tone that was much heavier and warmer than anything I had owned before. Of coarse the Studio is a little darker sounding than most Les Paul guitars because it doesn't have the maple top that the standard, superme, classic and custom do. But that was fine with me. I owned a guitar that was made in the USA, had Gibson on the headstock, played like a Les Paul and sounded mean. Eventually I would get my black beauty Gibson Les Paul Custom. But I will always remember my first Studio as the first real guitar I ever owned.
The cool thing about the Les Paul Studio
is it is a lot less investment to see if you like playing a Les Paul which has a feel that is unique amoung guitars. It has the same 490R Alnico magnet humbucker in the neck and the 498T Alnico magnet humbucker as the standard and the same mahogany body but without the binding on the neck or body as well as no maple top as is found on other higher price Les Paul guitars. However, for those who want to spend a little more to get the maple top on the Studio, Gibson now makes the Les Paul Studio Plus which features a AA grade maple top.
Gibson Les Paul Studios come in a variety of colors and hardware. The color of hardware depends on the color of the guitar as follows:
The Gisbon Les Paul Studio is available in Ebony (Black), Wine Red (my personal favorite), Platinum and Classic White with Chrome (Silver) Hardware.
The Gibson Les Paul Studio is also available in Fire Burst and Alpine White with Gold Finish Hardware.
The Gibson Les Paul Studio is available left handed in Wine Red, Ebony Black, Classic White and Fire Burst.
The Gibson Les Paul Studio Plus is available in Desert Burst and Translucent Black with Gold finish, black speed knobs and green (old school style) tunning knobs.
