years. I started with a Marshall JCM 900 100 watt head and a 1960A JCM 900 Cab. I immediately loved the way it sounded and it was a great upgrade from my Randall. Later I would discover my JCM 800 4100 100 watt head. It combines the modern featured of the JCM 900 like an effects loop, built in reverb and channel switching with old school JCM 800 tube technology and TONE. I have always liked Zakk Wylde's JCM 800 model the 2203 (or 2203x) but for whatever reason I am partial to my 2210 which are no longer available on the market. But I have had an opportunity to play my head and the JCM 900 as well as the JCM 2000 out of a variety of Marshall Speaker Cabinets as well as other brand name cabs. And the 1960 style cabinets work best for me.
After a lot of testing, my preference is the Marshall 1960 style cabinet. A lot of guys prefer the 1960A (top) or 1960B (bottom) with the 4 75 watt celestion speakers, but I prefer the tone of my 1960AX with the Vintage 25 watt celestions. They break up at a lower volume and I like the crunch of those speakers better than the 75 watt. If I had to buy a new Marshall half stack I would go with the JCM800 half stack package because I prefer the 800 sound to the JCM900 or even the JCM2000 although that amp has a lot of features I like including the 3 channel switching. But in the end I am still loyal to the JCM 800.
